Project Description
The demolition of a dilapidated barn and construction of a new barn, including re-use of stone, new king post trusses, attic trusses, clay pantiles and natural stone slate roof covering.
Challenges
During the excavation work, a four hundred year old well was discovered. Unfortunately, due to its position it had to be filled with concrete and capped off.
Also due to the poor condition of the existing walling stone, only half the amount required was salvaged from the demolition process. This problem was over come when Harris Quarries was discovered in nearby Ulley which was quarrying Rotherham Red Stone similar to that the barn had been built in two centuries ago.
Harris Quarries also supplied the matching natural stone, arch stone and window surrounds.
