Project Description

Construction of single storey extension to provide additional consulting rooms, meeting room and enlarged waiting area

Challenges

Due to previous mining activities the extension was constructed on a reinforced concrete raft foundation to structural engineer's detailed requirements

Where the extension was linked to the existing building a large ‘breakthrough' was required to enable seamless transition from the existing building to the extended section.

Extensive dust proof hoardings were erected to segregate the existing waiting room prior to demolition of a large section of walling.

Due to their size, the steel beams to hold the masonry and roof, were loaded onto the concrete raft, prior to construction of the walls. This was then lifted into position with mobile ‘Genie' hoists once the building was secure and the breakthrough was prepared.
