The construction of a variety of traditionally built House and flat types for sale by a private developer along with external works and new road to adoptable standard.
The site was divided by Pepper Street through which access had to be maintained for residents at the end of the cul-de-sack. Liaison was key to maintaining a good relationship with the neighbours who were in close proximity to the building works, this was especially so whilst the new road was being constructed. The small gesture of O&P operatives transferring neighbour’s bins to an accessible point by the refuse lorry helped maintain relations. The area of the site where the pair of semidetached houses was constructed was on the site of former petrol station. This required the area to be excavated to around a depth of 4m and left to ‘air’ for a number of weeks before the hole was backfilled with selected excavated and clean material. The foundations were then formed using driven steel casings and concrete infill.
