Project Description

Lottery funded refurbishment to a live community centre split into two phases, including all services and finishes alongside structural alterations and repairs to the existing building.

The first phase consisted of complete alterations and refurbishment including the removal of existing structural walls and the construction of a small extension.

The second phase was the complete refurbishment of the gym including structural changes and complete decoration with equipment. The key task for the project was to bring the building up to current fire regulations as well as remodelling the building to be used as a multi-functional establishment to generate income.

The main challenge of this project was completing the project within the limited time scale allocated, as well as keeping an area of the community centre open therefore allowing it to sustain an income. This was successfully achieved by careful planning and negotiation with subcontractors, suppliers and the community centre managers.

The project was funded by the lottery; this meant despite the continual surprises thrown up due to the age of the building, the budget had to be carefully managed. Ensuring that these issues were resolved in the most sustainable and cost effective way, meant that the community centre did not incur any excess cost.
