Project Description

Lottery funded refurbishment to a live community centre split into two phases, including all services and finishes alongside structural alterations and repairs to the existing building.

The first phase consisted of complete alterations and refurbishment including the removal of existing structural walls and the construction of a small extension.

The second phase was the complete refurbishment of the gym including structural changes and complete decoration with equipment. The key task for the project was to bring the building up to current fire regulations as well as remodelling the building to be used as a multi-functional establishment to generate income.

The shared site access was very narrow which along with a small site footprint for storage made logistical planning key to the success of the project. Good relations were forged with the neighbours by keeping them fully informed of large deliveries and maintaining their access throughout the project.

Deliveries were arranged ‘Just in time’ so the materials were taken directly to the point of use avoiding the need for storage as far as practically possible. All deliveries were ordered on the smallest vehicles possible and were guided into the site entrance by two competent banksman.
