Francis Willis Unit

Refurbishment and Extension at Francis Willis Unit, Lincoln County Hospital

Completion Date:

Project Description

The contract was carried out over four phases. The first three phases consisted of the complete refurbishment of twelve bedrooms including mechanical & electrical work.

The fourth phase consisted of the complete refurbishment of an additional four bedrooms, with the construction of a single story extension to incorporate a specialist Seclusion room, De-Escalation Area, Lounge and Plant room.

In the first three phases the works were within a live high security ward. This meant that all sequences of works most in which involved specialist materials had to be planned and liaised in a way not to disturb the normal routine that the hospital had in place for the patients. Work had to be executed exactly to program so not to aggravate the patients and their high maintenance requirement.

Leading up to the final phase the hospital was in need of the additional space that the extension would provide. This meant that the client wanted the work to be done in a very tight contract period. This was successfully achieved through precision planning of deliveries, along with the precise sequencing of individual operations.
