Alterations & Extension to the Hollis Building
at Norfolk Street, Sheffield

The works involved alterations and refurbishment of existing communal facilities together with the construction of an extension, associated external works and drainage.

This grade II listed building project came with a number of challenges right from the first week. Upon reduce level dig, Caskets were discovered at a depth of less than 3ft which plots were not indicated on the grave location plans.  This led to the commission of archaeologist involvement and the requirement of some creative engineering to design the foundations. The team all had to pull together to devise a solution so not to disturb any further caskets and avoid any exhume activities which would have caused major delay.

Hollis Building Small Project AwardDue to the graded listing of the building it was essential that the identity of the building was maintained.

All while ensuring the public’s safety as the church’s premises and services were kept live to the public throughout the construction phase.

We are very pleased to announce that we were awarded “The RIBA Small Project Award 2019” for this project.
