The project consisted of the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the Pharmacy Department in the Firth Building at the Northern General Hospital.
Several of the areas were spread around the secure pharmacy area. This meant access was very restrictive. Careful phasing and communication took place to ensure the main pharmacy for the whole of Northern general hospital was not disrupted. The main challenge was forming a steel frame canopy over the existing delivery point for the pharmacy. This delivery point always requires vehicular access to deliver vital drugs to service the hospital. Several shift patterns had to be arranged to erect and complete the structure at the delivery points least busy times. While still liaising carefully to ensure when deliveries did arrive, works stopped to allow access. A carefully designed scaffolding was also utilised to allow deliveries under the work area.
