Refurbishment of MSK Unit

at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield

Quality Built In

Refurbishment of MSK Unit, Royal Hallamshire Hospital

Working in the heart of the hospital, adjacent to Minor Injuries Department and Neuroscience.

Full refurbishment of the entire MSK Department over 2000m.sq floor area.
The works were carried out in 4 phases to maintain operational use of the department.

Challenges

The project entailed demolition of over 700m.sq masonry walls to open up the area and totally reconfigure the layout.

Due to noise constraints the demolition works were carried out by two teams working different shifts.

The night shift carried out the noisy demolition works whilst adjacent departments were closed. The day shift then removed all the demolition spoil in sealed wheelie bins to skips located in the site cabin.  This method proved successful in achieving a large amount of work in a short period of time whilst causing minimum disruption to the surrounding departments.
