Refurbishment and alterations at Shawlands Primary School
|Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Construction of timber frame extension to form Key stage 1 & 2 Learning Areas.
Works involved major landscaping and soft play along with boundary fencing and car parking to provide a safe learning environment.
Phase 1 was construction of the first section of classrooms, phase 2 demolition of the existing nursery, Phase 3 constructions of the last section of classrooms to link phase 1 and the existing school.
Extensive ground works were required to prepare the ground for the timber frame structure. This included the excavation of over a thousand tonnes in the first week.
Stepped concrete retaining walls were then installed to precise engineers dimensions ready for the timber frame prefabricated panels.
The school was in full use whilst the works were carried out and access and disabled parking were maintained throughout by careful planning of access and egress routes
