Interdisciplinary Programmes Office in the Sir Frederick Mappin Building for the University of Sheffield
|University of Sheffield
The construction included complete internal fit out including new Mechanical and Electrical installations, decoration, suspended ceilings, floating ceiling panels which reveals the existing high ceiling with exposure of the huge steel trusses and installation of multi coloured floor coverings. One of the main features of this project was the partition glass walls that run through the whole project forming individual work spaces and teaching rooms.
The initial challenge was to clear the site area which included employing specialist subcontractors to remove the highly contaminated fume cupboards.
The work then started to create a modern state of the art space for offices and learning within this historic listed building. The design integrated the old and new which required meticulous attention to detail by all trades to ensure the junctions between old and new flowed seamlessly together. The full height glass partitions required accurate surveying and skilled installation to create the space that sits within the high ceilings with exposed steel trusses.
